Computer hardware is a collection of components that allow a computer to function. The 11 components of computer hardware are: 

Central processing unit

Central processing units, commonly known as CPUs, are the brains of your computer. They process information and direct the flow of data between other components. CPUs can be found on desktop and laptop computers, tablets, and smartphones. They work by executing instructions set by software programs or microchips. Some CPUs work at a low clock speed to conserve power, while others are high-performance chips designed to run at higher speeds. 

A CPU’s clock speed determines how fast it executes instructions. High-performance CPUs may have multiple cores that can handle multiple tasks simultaneously and faster than standard CPUs.


A motherboard is the center of a computer’s hardware, connecting the CPU to the other components, such as the graphics card, memory, and storage. A motherboard consists of several main components, including integrated circuits (ICs), connectors, and integrated circuits that control the power delivery to the other components. The motherboard also contains component sockets that accept printed circuit boards or chips, providing additional functionality. These include motherboards for graphics cards, sound cards, and network cards.

The size and shape of a motherboard vary depending on the needs of its intended use. It may be mounted on a printed circuit board (PCB) or built into housing using plastic or metal parts. This helps in reducing its size and weight. 

A motherboard may be manufactured using metal or plastic and glass epoxy resin. It can be made of copper, aluminum, stainless steel, or even fiberglass. 

The motherboard is one component that can make your life easy with its basic connections rather than a complex wiring system like PCI-E Slots and card Reader Exhaust Fan & CD /DVD Drive, EMI Shielded Resistor Backplane, and Power Supply Fan.

Random Access Memories

RAM is a type of computer storage that the CPU can access quickly. It is similar to hard drive storage but has a much faster read and write speed. RAM also has a short lifespan, so you must replace it periodically. Most computers now come with a minimum of 4GB RAM.

Hard drive

Hard drives are essential for storing data and allowing your computer to run smoothly.


A monitor is part of a computer that projects images onto a screen. It comprises various components, such as a screen, a housing, and a backlight. The screen is the main component of a monitor because it is what the user views. It can be made of liquid crystal or organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology, determining its overall quality and color reproduction.

The housing protects the internal components of a monitor and holds them in place. It can be made of plastic or metal and encloses the other components. The backlight illuminates the screen so that it is visible to the user. A higher-quality backlight displays deeper blacks and richer colors on the screen.


Printer hardware is made up of all the components that are required to output text and images to paper. These components include the laser printer, toner, ink cartridges, power supply, and other parts. These parts can be purchased individually or in set packages. Some manufacturers also provide optional accessories such as paper trays, feeders, and USB cables.

Power Supply

A power supply is a computer component that converts electrical power into usable voltage for other components. It can be found in the back of a computer, under the case, or built directly into the motherboard.

A power supply contains one or more internal electric motors called transformers that convert electricity from a wall outlet into a current that powers the components within the computer. The power supply output is then connected to another piece of hardware known as a connector, which connects it to other system components.

A power supply may also contain other components, such as capacitors and resistors, to regulate and control energy flow. These provide essential protection to sensitive components in the system, including microprocessors and memory modules, from damage or loss of voltage or current.

Cooling fan

A cooling fan is vital to any computer’s internal cooling system. A cooling fan helps keep the components in your computer from overheating, which can cause permanent damage and reduce the lifespan of your machine. The fan’s rotating parts are made of a material that can absorb heat from the inside of your computer. Because of this, the fan sucks the heat out through its blades and blows it away from the machine. This allows everything inside your computer to stay at an optimal temperature and function properly.

A cooling fan is usually attached to a heatsink or heatsink fan attached to a copper or aluminum heat sink that dissipates excess heat from the CPU (central processing unit). These components are designed to fit into the main body of a laptop or desktop and sit between the processor and air intake vent. A cooling fan is often attached to another component called a fan speed controller or controller chip, which allows you to adjust the speed at which the fans turn. You can adjust this setting depending on whether you want them to be more powerful or quieter.


A computer mouse, a trackball or cursor control device, is an interface device that moves the cursor on a screen. Other included features include a weight system that helps maintain equilibrium when lifting and moving the mouse and a button that allows you to reset your grip on the mouse should it become uncomfortable.


Keyboard components are an important part of any computer system. The keycaps, backlight, and other physical elements in a keyboard determine how the keyboard performs. The availability of different types and brands of keyboards often depends on the computer system’s price, performance, and design.

Sound card

A sound card is one of the vital components of a computer’s audio system. It produces and transmits sound through speakers, headphones, or other audio output devices. A high-end sound card can even produce digital-to-analog conversion for streaming audio from a network or digital media device. This can be useful when a computer cannot output audio directly (for example, when connected to a TV or another device that does not have an audio input).
